These top tips are intended to provide you with the information needed to avoid electric hazards. When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of an electric shock and fire.
- Plugging appliances into a worn (outlet or receptacle) may result in overheating of the power cord or fire.
- Do not operate any appliances with a damaged cord or plug.
- To prevent overload or blowing a fuse, do not put the appliances into a circuit (outlet or receptacle) that already has other appliances working.
- Do not put cords under carpets.
- Do not cover cords with throw rags or similar coverings.
- Avoid the use of an extension cord or power strips because they may overheat and cause the risk of fire.
- To disconnect appliances, first turn off the appliance, then grip the plug and pull it from the wall (outlet or receptacle), never pull by the cord.
- Check periodically for a secure plug and outlet, if the plug becomes very hot, the outlet may need to be replaced.
- Never tamper or attempt to fix appliances. Any tampering with, or modification of appliances, can result in serious injury, death, fire or risk of electric shock.
